Vertebrate Genomes Project

DNAnexus is the supporting platform for the Genome 10K's Vertebrate Genomes Project (VGP), which assembles and analyzes genomes of all vertebrate species to create a digital Genome Ark library and help document species that are on the brink of extinction.

  • Secure & unified platform connecting scientists globally
  • Scalable environment to assemble thousands of genomes and allow collaboration around petabyte-sized genomic analysis results
  • Transparency, reproducibility, and data provenance for VGP best practices pipelines and results

The Wheat Genome

De novo genome assembly is a complex task made more challenging by high levels of genetic diversity, repetitive elements, and duplicated genomic regions. Wheat species are especially challenging because of their hexaploidy and high repeat content, which can generate 5x more data than a human genome and 22x more compute consumed.

  • Genome size: 15.5 Gigabase pairs
  • Core hours used for assembly: 1.1 Million
  • Data generated: 700 Terabytes
